AUTOMOTIVE ASSETS
The Transportation Research Center (TRC) is a 24/7 research facility with approximately 4,500 acres of road courses, wooded trails, a 7.5-mile high-speed Oval Test Track, 50-acre Vehicle Dynamics Area, and other testing areas and facilities. As an independent vehicle test facility and proving ground, TRC is a one-stop source for research and development, as well as compliance and certification testing for vehicles and components. TRC performs crash testing, emissions testing, dynamic and durability testing, validation; offers specialized test equipment and calibration services, crash dummy rentals, performance and vehicle test driving; hosts special events and, most importantly, provides engineering solutions.
The Center for Automotive Research (CAR) is an interdisciplinary research center in The Ohio State University’s College of Engineering. CAR research focuses on energy, safety, and the environment, aimed at improving sustainable mobility. CAR offers state-of-the-art facilities for students, faculty, research staff, and industry partners. With a concentration on preparing the next generation of automotive leaders, CAR is recognized for interdisciplinary emphasis on systems engineering, advanced and unique experimental facilities, collaboration on advanced product development projects with industry, and a balance of government and privately sponsored research.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC) is the agency's in-house laboratory. Staff at VRTC conduct research and vehicle testing in support of NHTSA's mission to save lives, prevent injuries and reduce traffic-related health care and other economic costs.
